Description: Ehlen & Grote Co. store interior in the Dobner Block, located at 142-146 South Glassell, Orange, California, 1892. Image shows view of center room with three men--P.W. Ehlen, proprietor, on the far right--standing among counters and shelves of general merchandize. This was the original home of the Ehlen & Grote Big White Store, begun in 1889. In 1901 Ehlen and Grote moved across the street to the corner of South Glassell and the Plaza where the Mission Pharmacy was later located. P.W. Ehlen retired from the business due to ill health in 1910. Reverse of photo mount stamped with "B.F. Conaway / PHOTOGRAPHER / 121 West Fourth St., / SANTA ANA, CAL."
