Description
The area around Turlock, California was known as the "sandy plains" prior to 1900 when water for irrigation was first supplied. This photograph shows the sparse vegetation on the sandy soil in the foreground. A row of freight cars is visible toward the far right side of the photograph as a train appears to travel through the area.
