Description
Beatriz Michelena, as Mignon, and House Peters as Wilhelm Meister, in the California Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) production of Mignon, filmed in 1914 and released the next year. In Mignon, a man's relationship with a gypsy woman leads to her suicide; in turn the gypsy troupe kidnaps his daughter, Mignon. After many years of searching, the father descends into madness, only to find his daughter and not recognize her. In the end, his sanity is restored, and they are reunited. The CMPC was located in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael, Marin County, between 1914 and 1921. The studio produced 15 films, including Salomy Jane, which survives in its entirety in the Library of Congress archives.
