Description
Excursionists arriving by car and train come together at the first Inn at Muir Woods, circa 1911. A spur of the Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railroad terminated at the Inn at Muir Woods National Monument. The Inn opened on June 27, 1908 but was destroyed by fire in 1913. It was rebuilt the following year in a different location in a much more modest style. The railroad's operations in Muir Woods and on Mt. Tamalpais ended at the close of 1929.
