Description
Publicity photo of actors Walter C. Fell and Nancy Coleman, for the 1937 Mountain Play, Thunder in Paradise. Fell played Kamehameha, nephew of the Hawaiian King, and Coleman played Paalikoa, sister to Huahine. Thunder in Paradise was written for the Mountain Play Association by Cecil James Cook, and is set in Hawaii during the time the playwright's' ancestor, Captain James Cook, explored the island. The Mountain Play Association began its annual production in an outdoor amphitheater on top of Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, in 1913. Shows run for several weekends, beginning each May. This image is from a collection of scrapbooks, deposited with the California Room in 1975, by Mountain Play Association Director, Marion Hayes Cain.
