Weekly cattle market at Alajuela, northwest of the capital [capitol] city of Costa Rica, is a full-day affair, beginning in the very early hours and lasting until nightfall. The cattle begin coming in after midnight of the previous day. These cattle have been bred in Nicaragua but were brought from that country down into the Guana Casta Province (northwestern part of Costa Rica) for fattening on the Castillo plains.
