Description
This bayonet was found on the Neves property on land dug up to build the Central Library for the city in the 1960s. A serial number on the bayonet was used to date it and to surmise that it might have been used in the 1847 Battle of Santa Clara. For more information about the Battle of Santa Clara refer to the book, "The Battle of Santa Clara, January 2, 1847" by Dorothy Regnery. From Santa Clara Historic Museum, City of Santa Clara. Donated by Ethel Lewis of the Santa Clara Neves Family.
