Description
Color slide of a portion of the racecourse at the Cycling Road Race venue in Mission Viejo, California of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. The photograph shows people standing in groups, walking, or riding bicycles on a four lane city street that has obviously been closed to through traffic. The street is Marguerite Parkway; there is an island in the center of the street that is landscaped with lawn, trees, and shrubs. The curbside of the street is similarly landscaped. The people in the photograph are dressed in shorts, tank tops, and hats reflecting the heat of a Southern California summer. The street appears to have an incline, and some of the people with bicycles are pushing them up the street rather than riding them. The top portion of the photograph shows the "Mission bell" style street lights that are characteristic of Mission Viejo; there are colorful banners hanging from them. Also visible are the rooftops of the homes in a nearby neighborhood. At the top of the slide is a label with "84-009, Frame 001" typed on it. At the bottom of the slide is written "camjl 231" in pencil and, in typescript, "20, Jul84H14."
