Description
Depicted here are men associated with Billy Shannon's Villa, circa 1910. Billy Shannon stands second from the right. Shannon was a former amateur lightweight champion who later turned professional. He operated Billy Shannon's Villa, a saloon and training facility located on a triangular lot at the west end of Fourth Street, in San Rafael, California. He managed the combination restaurant-bar and training camp, which held a small ring featuring popular exhibition prizefights, from about 1906 to 1914.
