A view in the valley of Soda Butte Creek looking N. toward the mountains which overhand the road to Cooke City. The latter is a picturesque old mining town just outside the Northeastern entrance to the Yellowstone Nat. Park. In the farthest distance to the left, Druid Peak (elev. 9,600 ft.) lifts its abrupt crest against the sky. Straight N., at the head of the creek valley, is Baronett Peak (elev. 10,459 ft.) and a little farther to the right is Abiathar Peak (elev. 10,700 ft.) The little rustic bridge at our feet is a typical stream crossing on one of the horseback trails of which many penetrate the more remote parts of the Park. The one before us leaves the Cooke City road a short distance to our left and crossing the bridge proceeds for about 20 miles up the valley of the Lamar River in a southeasterly direction, skirting the base of the Absoroka range and then, turning southwest comes out finally on the northern shore of Yellowstone Lake. Few tourists visit this secluded shore of Yellowstone Lake. Few tourists visits this secluded Northeastern corner of Yellowstone Park, though the rugged mountain scenery here is unexcelled in any other part of this great national playground. (Lat. 45N.; Long. 110 W.)
