Course description in The Adventures of FUB, Fall 1969 catalog. Anthony Nugent taught courses at the Free University of Berkeley (FUB). During this term he taught "The Erotic in Western Religion." In the 1970 Spring issue he taught "Turning on the Church." He described it as a workshop on confronting the white racist multi-billion $ ecclesiastical corporations with their own radical traditions of Jesus, the Prophets and the beloved community. Getting churches off their assets. Getting church-goers off their pews. Yipping up church conventions. Resurrecting dead bodies. Waging guerilla war fare against the beast. Quoting scriptures to Fundamentalists." The course description in that issue of the FUB in comix book form was surrounded with graphic sexual images (mostly penises). The issue met with protests from many in the Berkeley community. According to Richard York, the Free Church destroyed all copies on their premises. He observed that Nugent had no choice in the cartoons associated with the description of his course.
