Description
Craftsman Bungalow, located at 1312 East Palmyra Avenue, Orange, California, 2003. Image shows front view of the house which was originally designed and constructed ca. 1910 for the rancher Jurgen [George] Schmetgen and his wife, Rebecca, by the Orange Contracting and Milling Company. The one-story bungalow has a front-facing gable roof with lap siding on the facades. Elephantine posts on bases covered with lap siding support the full entry porch, and a three-section transom, with side windows and center louvered vent, is set into the gable face. On either side of the front door are matching fixed windows with smaller double-hung side windows and a multipaned transom. A photograph of the home was featured on page 54 of "Beautiful Orange Homes, " a promotional brochure from the early 1920s that featured examples of design and construction by Orange Contracting & Milling Company.
