Description
The college's first classes were held in 1960 in the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds; the school moved to this permanent site in 1965 and received university status in 1985. Stanislaus State College remained the school's name until 1972. Visible are the large reflecting pond, the almost completed arts complex, the library building, the classroom building and the oval sports track parrallel to Geer Road. Filled for the first time in March 1965, the two and a quarter acre "reflecting pool" was essentially designed to collect storm drainage and provide irrigation water for the campus landscape. Currently it is also a unique, beautiful feature of the main entrance to California State University, Stanislaus.
