Autobiography & Reminiscence of Henry Beauchampe Russ, San Francisco, 1901. The Society of California Pioneers
Henry Beauchampe Russ was born in Mount Pleasant, New York on September 25th, 1840. He moved to California with his parents, on the ship "Loo Choo", one of Colonel Stevenson's transport ships, landing on March 26th 1847. Mr. Russ received his education in San Francisco, attending the Rincon Point School, Powell High School, and the University of the Pacific at San Jose. After graduating he entered the house of Mebius Duisenberg. Mr. Russ was an active member of The Society of California Pioneers and the Olympic Club. He was Treasurer of the Olympic Club from 1877 on. Henry B. Russ was crested and constituted a Knight of the Red Cross; a Knight Templar; and Knight of Malta in 1889, in California Commandery No. 1
Autobiographies and Reminiscences of California Pioneers, p. 104-115, Vol. 6. This is a typed transcript, bound into a volume, of the member's autobiographical reminiscence created as an institutional record for the Society of California Pioneers. The original handwritten version exists in the member's biographical file. This reminiscence includes a reference to a photograph of the member in a set of bound volumes. It appears that the photographs in this set were dispersed throughout the regular photography collection, but the photographs referenced in the related materials may or may not be these same photographs. The period of time represented by this biography is from 1847 to 1901. It includes details regarding the Russ Family history and their journey to California in 1847. Particular attention is given to the life and occupation of the father of H.B. Russ. More details are given regarding the Olympic Club of San Francisco and Mr. Russ' involvement with that organization.
