Description
This four page representative issue of the JACD News Letter is dated November, 1943. In the Newsletter the JACD describes itself as "an independent non-partisan organization, which subscribes to the principle of maintaining and extending democracy in every way." The newsletter promotes rallies, cultural and political events and reports on issues such as "Nisei in the army" and democracy in post war Japan. The Newsletter contains JACD business such as "Membership Meetings" and "Community News as well as editorials. One editorial of particular relevance to Japanese internment says, "The evacuation of the entire Japanese population, both American and Japanese, may have seemed harsh. But we of the Japanese community must realize once and for all, that this is a total war." Another entitled. "Don't be suckers, Nisei" warns internees against "unsolicited support of professional weepers, pacifists, sympathetic "liberals" and civil-rights cranks whose relationship to the war effort is at best highly dubious and negative one."
