Description
Plaza Park with two unidentified men wearing suits and top hats standing near original fountain, Orange, California, 1887. Looking east, visible behind the two men is the Bank of Orange (101 East Chapman Avenue). A sign with "REAL ESTATE" leans against the building and a four-wheeled horse-drawn buggy is visible at the far left by a tree. Around the fountain are fledgling plants, enclosed with a chicken-wire post fence to keep out the livestock. The streets are laid out, but unpaved. A gas street light is visible at the rear center of the photograph. [Tradition suggests the two men depicted are the founders of Orange, Alfred Chapman and Andrew Glassell.]
