Description
Hewes Park picnic area, El Modena, at the corner of Esplanade and La Veta Avenue, California. Image shows view of the picnic area, with a woman cooking over a large stone barbeque. Picnic tables are visible to the right, with large trees in background. The park was built in 1905 by David Hewes (1822-1915), capitalist, philanthropist and land developer, who hired Robert G. Fraser to design the park, which became a popular destination for Orange residents through the 1940s.
