Description
Four boys appear to be playing and swimming (possibly skinny-dipping) in the rush of irrigation water flowing over a 'gate'. Another boy still dressed but barefoot, sits on top watching. Another person in the center of the photograph appears to be walking toward the 'swimming hole'. Note that the 'gate' and side supports are of wood rather than concrete which was utilized at a later date. This canal is part of the Turlock Irrigation District which was voted into existence on June 6, 1887. The first irrigation water began to flow in March 1900.
