Description
Sausalito's Water Street, pictured on the right, circa 1903, was so named because it was at the water's edge, according to Sausalito's 1851 Old Town Map. Shown here is Water Street intersecting with El Portal, with Plaza Vina del Mar in between. Nearby was the Sausalito ferry and train terminal where ferries from San Francisco connected with the local North Shore Railroad. This railroad ran from Sausalito through Marin County, and up the California coast to Cazadero. In 1935, Water Street was renamed Bridgeway.
