Description
Thirty one horse drawn wagons and one Model-T truck are full of watermelons and line up across and down Front Street in Turlock, California. By 1912 the right side of Front Street is lined with various businesses and on the left are buildings and stacks of lumber of the lumber company. Beyond the cut lumber, train tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad are visible, as is part of a caboose. Toward the back of the photograph is a line of freight cars on a railway siding possibly to be filled with the watermelons and then hauled to market back East to cities such as Chicago and New York.
