Cover title. An album, primarily of lithographs from photographs by W. S. Jones, depicting Oakland buildings and streets, with some landscape, waterfront and Lake Merritt views. String-bound. Each page depicts a single photograph; captions are printed or pasted below the original. The object was described in the Spring 2005 catalog of Argonaut Book Shop (San Francisco) as follows: "Oblong octavo. 5pp. printed on rectos only, plus 48 full-page plates. Green boards, printed on front cover. Spine tied with ribbon as issued...Very scarce. Only 7 copies located, mostly in California, one in New York. The full-page plates are clear photogravures produced by Britton & Rey from photographs taken specifically for this work by W. S. Jones. A few of the plates are captioned (later) in pencil as to location, etc. Numerous buildings and street scenes are shown including churches and synagogues, schools, Civic buildings, Chabot Observatory, parks, the waterfront, views of Lake Merritt, cemeteries, various streets such as Broadway, Washington, and Fourteenth streets (and numerous others), bird’s-eye views of the town in various directions, etc."
