Description
This photograph shows boys demonstrating their horsemanship skills at the Tamalpais Centre in Kentfield, California. Each year a May Day celebration and may pole competition took place in which all the southern Marin schools participated. There were races, baseball games and of course a Queen of the May. May Day, 1909, marked the opening of the Tamalpais Centre, a gift of Mrs. A.E. Kent, to Marin County, located on 29 acres of land at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais. The intent of the Tamalpais Centre was to provide educational and recreational opportunities for Marin County residents.
