Description
Wallace J. Miller was born in Ohio circa October 1862, and died in Los Angeles (Calif.) on Dec. 23, 1921. On the occasion of each decennial census, he described himself as an artist, a painter, or a sculptor. In mid-1895, he was accused of counterfeiting money and went to trial, but he was released as there wasn't enough evidence to support the allegations. He moved to Riverside (Calif.) circa 1895 and lived there through mid-1897. During his residency, he created an advertising portfolio which consisted primarily of paintings of city and town life -- especially local businesses -- as well as some scenic views of Southern California. Prior to Miller's return to San Diego in the fall of 1897, he donated the paintings to the Riverside Public Library.
