The back portion of the Green store, now run by the Lawrence family, was converted into a library. This might have never happened, however, without the efforts of Mary Barmby. In 1910, she became Alameda County's first regional librarian. Mary was dedicated to the task of getting books out to people, and in four years, she built libraries all along the East Bay. In 1914, it was Dublin's turn. So auspicious was the occasion that many of the town's people came to be part of the heralded event. (Courtesy Leo Reimers).
