Description
William Pike as the young Faust seducing Marguerite, played by Beatriz Michelena, in the California Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) 1916 production. This castle scene is thought to have been filmed at the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo. Faust, a cinematic re-telling of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's original tale of the same name, was never released due to cost overruns. Select scenes were used in the 1919 film production of The Eternal Mephisto, later re-titled The Price Woman Pays. The CMPC was located in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael, Marin County, between 1914 and 1921. The studio produced 15 films, including Salomy Jane, which survives in its entirety in the Library of Congress archives.
