Description
Photograph of one of the early bridges that were built over the Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne and San Joaquin rivers in Merced and Stanislaus Counties beginning in the 1890s. The early bridges needed to accommodate both the high waters of seasonal flooding and steamboats that used the rivers to transport people and goods. Verso: Chester Bridge, approx.[sic] 1 mile east of present Milliken Bridge, Merced River.
