Description
Picture of the Hughes Hotel which was constructed in 1887 in Victorian style between Tulare and I Streets. Owned by sheep ranchers, father and son, Thomas E. Hughes and William M. Hughes. It was known to be the first building with an elevator and as the first four-story building in Fresno. Around 1934, the original steeple was replaced by neon signs and several exterior stairs were added. The building was destroyed by fire in July 1953.
