Description
Janet Gray Hayes was the mayor of San Jose, California from 1975 - 1983. She was both the first woman to be elected mayor San Jose, and the first woman elected mayor of any major city in the United States. She was Preceded by Norman Y. Mineta and succeeded by Tom McEnery.
