Title
Puerto Rico, San Juan: El Morro - the fort built by the Spaniards on the rocky bluff overlooking the entrance to San Juan bay. El Morro means bluff or headland and is really a nickname for the original Spanish name of Castillo de San Felipe del Morro. It began with a single tower and bastion in 1539 and took 250 years to build, becoming at its completion one of the finest examples of early fortifications in the new world. Sawders 1949
