Description
The area of Sausalito seen here circa 1903 was known as Whaler's Cove because between the late 1820s to the early 1850s, whaling ships would stop here and refresh their water supply from a local spring. This area of Sausalito was one of the first developed and later became known as "Old Town." Just up the road, "New Town" became the connecting hub between San Francisco and the rest of Marin County. There, the Sausalito ferry and train terminal connected San Francisco with the local North Shore Railroad. This railroad ran from Sausalito through Marin County, and up the California coast to Cazadero.
