Description
San Francisco ferries bound for Marin County served commuters and excursionists alike. Travel time was approximately 30 minutes and would take the traveler to the Sausalito ferry terminal. From there, passengers could board the North Pacific Coast Railroad, which traveled through the towns of Marin County, then as far north as Cazadero, California. Schuetzen Park, accessible via ferry and train, and noted on the ferry sign pictured here, circa 1895, was a popular amusement park in San Rafael near the modern intersection of Andersen Drive and Bellam Boulevard. The name of the park was changed after WWI, to California Park due to anti-German sentiment.
