Description
In the 1890s, Camille Grosjean owned and operated a 50-acre vineyard off Bolinas Road in Fairfax. The North Pacific Coast Railroad stopped nearby at the Fairfax train station to service Grosjean's vineyard. The majority of his wine was transported by train and sold at his store, C. Grosjean & Company, in San Rafael. In 1917, C. Grosjean and Company Grocers took over the newly rebuilt Croker Building in Fairfax. Grosjean was Marin County's first chain grocery store, with sites in Fairfax, San Rafael, San Anselmo and Lagunitas.
