Description
ELEANOR MURRAY FALLON (1815 - 1896). Eleanor was the wife of Jeremiah Fallon and the sister of Michael Murray. They all came from Ireland. She traveled in wagon train from New Orleans to Mission San Jose. In 1852, they moved to Dublin to stay. When gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill in 1848, both familes tried their luck at prospecting. The Fallons and Murrays were not very successful, however. To help make ends meet, Eleanor served meals to hungry prospectors who paid her with gold dust or nuggets. Despite Eleanor's limited success as a businesswoman, Jeremiah decided to return to the mission area stopping near Dublin in 1850. He bought 246 acres of land from Jose Maria Amador for a price of $1,500. In 1864, Jeremiah Fallon died at the age of 49. Eleanor lived in Dublin until her death. Both her and her husband, Jeremiah Fallon, are buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery. Page 25, Image of America : Dublin, by Mike Lynch and Dublin Heritage Center
