Description
The North Pacific Coast Railroad (NPC) ran service through Junction, later known as San Anselmo, California. The San Francisco Theological Seminary is seen in the distance. The Seminary increased demand for railroads, which serviced West Marin, Ross Valley and the City of San Rafael, hence the name Junction. San Anselmo is still nicknamed The Hub City. The NPC began running trains on January 7th, 1875, and transported redwood lumber, local dairy and agricultural products, as well as express cars and passengers. It operated almost 93 miles of track that extended from a pier in Sausalito (which connected the line via ferry to San Francisco) northwest to Cazadero. In 1902, the railroad was sold to the North Shore Railroad, then in 1907 became part of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. The dirt road, seen running from the upper left to lower right corner, is now Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The crossroad is now Center Boulevard and continues to Fairfax.
