Description
The Northwestern Pacific (NWP) Railroad ran trains through rural San Geronimo Valley in the western part of Marin County. The Lagunitas Station, central in the valley, was a popular stop as the Lagunitas Development Company promoted summer cottages to vacationing crowds. Engine No. 87, seen on the left circa 1912, was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1880, and acquired by the NWP in December 1907. In March 1908 the engine was given the number 87 and used primarily as standby service for passenger trains. The NWP scrapped it in November 1917.
