Description
Crate label for "Sonny" Orange County Valencias, Olive Hillside Groves Inc., Olive, California. Color lithograph label has a dark blue background with a boy handing an orange to his mother, who is sitting in a chair with a book on her lap. Oranges and a toy horse are on the ground around their feet. In upper right corner in black text is "ORANGE COUNTY / VALENCIAS." "SONNY" is in white lettering running vertically along left side of label, and "OLIVE HILLSIDE GROVES INC. / OLIVE, CALIFORNIA" is in light blue text along bottom of label. "LITHO IN U.S.A. - WESTERN LITHO CO. LOS ANGELES 639" is printed in border in lower right corner. Olive Hillside Groves was located on Orange-Olive Road, by the railroad tracks, and was the first packing house founded in Olive, on September, 1914. In December of 1927, it was completely destroyed by fire and later rebuilt on the same site, continuing operation until around 1960. It was a Mutual Orange Distributors house.
