Description
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) working on the terracing of the Mountain Theater, on Mount Tamalpais, May 17, 1936. In addition to indigenous stone seats, engineer, Emerson Knight's plan included installation of drainage and water systems, grading, aisles, stone walls, and ramps, as well as the planting of native trees, shrubs and grasses. The Mountain Play Association began its annual production in an outdoor amphitheater in 1913. Shows run for several weekends, beginning each May. This image is from a collection of scrapbooks, deposited with the California Room in 1975, by Mountain Play Association Director, Marion Hayes Cain.
