Description
The spire of the St. Elmo Hotel is visible on the right side of West Main Street. Note on the left foreground of the photograph, Berg's store, built in this location in 1903. The driver of the horse team and his passenger stand on what appear to be logs being hauled as they turn onto West Main Street. Verso: This picture was taken after the fire of Feb. 2, 1910 that destroyed all the wooden buildings from the St. Elmo Hotel to the Sahlberg Shoe Store. The shoe store and the St. Elmo were saved. We can also see the old Berg store built in 1903, their new store built in 1912, so this picture was taken about 1911.
