Description
Ben Johnson's cabin in Muir Woods, circa 1910. In the 1890s, Ben Johnson worked as gamekeeper for the Sportsman's Club which was located in Redwood Canyon (site of Muir Woods) before it became a National Monument. As gamekeeper of the Club, Johnson lived in his own cabin near the confluence of the Redwood and Fern Creeks. His cabin was demolished in 1928. William Kent purchased Redwood Canyon, now Muir Woods National Monument, and donated it to the Federal Government in 1908, to save the ancient Redwoods for posterity.
