Description
San Rafael High School, San Rafael, California, is pictured circa 1900. This early incarnation of San Rafael High School was on the west side of E Street, between Third and Fourth Streets. It opened in the fall of 1899 and served the community until about 1925 when a new, larger school was built. Its lower floors housed the San Rafael Library until they completed their own building in 1908. The first San Rafael High School, established in 1888, had shared space with the grammar school on Fourth and Shaver Streets. In 1899, this separate high school structure was built on E Street to accommodate secondary school students.
