Description
A workman laying brick in the El Miradero’s solarium during the remodeling of the mansion into a public library. The solarium once included wall panels with exposed semicircular framing with painted stencil patterns. The stencils can be seen above the scaffolding. The reverse side of the reception hall fireplace functioned as a fireplace for the solarium, and this could be what the workman is covering with brick. The renovation took place during the mid-1950s, and the library opened in 1956. The Brand Library was once the home of Leslie C. Brand until his death in 1925 and his wife, Mary Louise Brand, until her death in 1945. Brand deeded his home and property to the City of Glendale to be converted into a public library and park.
