Description
The interior mail sorting area of a post office is depicted. It can be seen that each letter's address was read by an individual before being sorted into their method of organization for delivery. Note that the two sets of metal bars are of different heights to facilitate an angled opening of the mail bags to make it easier to 'toss' a letter into the bag while standing behind the counter.
