Description: Enlarged color photograph of the 3101 64-Bit Schottky Bipolar RAM Die. Intel's first successful product, the 3101 Schottky bipolar memory, a 64-bit high speed static random access memory (RAM) was introduced in 1969, just nine months after the start-up. Bipolar memories were not new, but Intel adopted an innovation, Schottky bipolar technology, (named for German physicist, Walter Schottky). Not only did it work like a charm, but the company beat its competitors to the market.
