Description
Pictured is a stone bench inscribed with "Alice Eastwood" at Marin Junior College, Kentfield, California, circa 1930. Botanist Alice Eastwood (1859-1953) joined the staff of the California Academy of Sciences in 1890, and in 1894 was promoted to Curator and Head of the Department of Botany, a position she held until she retired in 1949. Eastwood's efforts helped establish a definitive classification table for the flora of North America. This image is part of the Charles Bach Collection, which features images from the Bach family estate, also located in Kentfield.
