Description
Three combines each with a crew of four to five men and a team of over twenty horses and mules are halted in a field of stubble. The drivers sit on their high seats holding the reins and a long thin whip for controlling and guiding their teams. Other combine crew members are; combine man (foreman), header-tender, sack-sewer and the sack-jig. The sack-jig pulls full sacks of grain off the threshing outlet, gives the sack a "jig" (shake) and sets it where the sack-sewer can sew the sack closed. In this photo sacks of grain can be seen stacked on the right side of the middle combine.
