Description
Point Reyes Station, pictured here in 1905, in the western portion of Marin County, was originally called Olema Station. Olema, a neighboring town, had been bypassed by the North Pacific Shore Railroad when the line was built. Point Reyes Station became the main commercial venue for West Marin, and a departure point for those visiting Bear Valley, Tomales Bay and the Point Reyes Lighthouse. Note the horse drawn stage, center left, headed to Inverness four miles to the north west. Also note the General Mercantile building in the middle of the photograph with the signs advertising "Gasoline" and "Auto Garage."
