Description
Two Girl Scouts, Elaine Davis and Marlene Hayden, sitting on the original Plaza fountain after its move to Orange City Park, Orange, California, June, 1944. Both girls are ten years and nine months old at the time of this photograph. The fountain is dry and they are on the lower center, with one of the fountains decorative herons between them. When the fountain was in use, the herons spouted streams of water. The original three- tiered fountain, decorated with herons, owls and cat-tails, was installed in Plaza Park in 1887 and later replaced in 1937 by a tile and electric fountain constructed by the Westinghouse Electric Company. In 1940 the original fountain was moved to the wading pool next to the Plunge in Orange City Park (renamed Hart Park in 1964.) It was later placed in storage, restored in 1981 and installed in front of City Council Chambers in Orange. [See also OPL4568]
