Description
Detachable dragon goes on top of helmet. Boys' Day Festival (Tango-no-Sekku) is observed annually on May 5th to celebrate the healthy growth and development of young boys. On this day, the Japanese take iris-scented baths, sip iris wine, and stick iris leaves on the roof. The iris is considered a magic flower that drives away evil spirits and bad luck. Carp made of paper and sometimes cloth are flown on poles on this day because carp is considered to symbolize manliness. In some families, smaller carp are decorated indoors . Warrior dolls and toy sets of armor are decorated on tiered stands covered with green felt cloth. The special delicacies of this day are chimaki, or rice dumplings, wrapped in bamboo leaves and kashiwamochi, Japanese cakes wrapped in oak leaves.
