Description
Enlarged color photograph of the Intel® 4004 microprocessor package. Clock speed: 108 kilohertz. Transistor Count: 2,300. Chip Performance: .06 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). Circuit Line Size: 6.5 (10 microns). Addressable memory: 640 bytes. The 4004 microprocessor was originally built on 2- inch silicon wafer. The 4004 was Intel's first microprocessor. This breakthrough invention powered the Busicom calculator and paved the way for embedding intelligence in inanimate objects as well as the personal computer.
