Description
"Frames" made of chicken-wire encased with wood are full of cut peaches and laid out in rows to dry in the sun. Sun-drying was the method used to preserve the fruit and the wire on the bottom of the frames allowed the air to circultate which helped the process. Once dried, the farmers had more flexibility as to when and where the crops could by sold. By 1917 there were enough large canneries in operation that most of the fruit was sold to them for processing and resale.
